HAVING A HAPPY LABOR
Pregnancy and labor can be an exciting journey! No matter if it’s your first, second, or third, every pregnancy is different. While some happen naturally, some may need to be induced for various reasons.
Labor induction has become much more common, as people are becoming aware of the ways it may be beneficial for the health of both the pregnant person and the baby. Whether it is a medically indicated labor induction or elective labor induction, it’s important to understand the how and why so you can feel confident, aware, and excited for the birth of your baby.
As many as 16 percent of pregnancies being diagnosed with gestational diabetes and 8 percent of pregnancies experiencing preeclampsia. These factors only contribute a fraction to the 20 percent of births that utilize labor induction!

THE WHY AND HOW OF LABOR INDUCTION
As the pregnancy nears its end, many find the experience uncomfortable and just want the baby out. This is perfectly normal, as it’s perfectly natural to be excited to want to meet the little bundle of joy. Having said that, there are a lot of myths surrounding labor induction. As a professional doula, I have heard all sorts of old wives tales, here are a few of the more common:
Myth #1: Riding in a bumpy car will make your baby come faster.
Myth #2: Subsequent babies are born quicker if your first was born via induction.
Myth #3: Induced labors don’t hurt as much.
Myth #4: You can trigger labor on your own.
Myth #5: A full moon will bring your baby into this world.

There are many reasons why it may be medically necessary to induce labor, just as there are several cases where one will choose induction for personal reasons without a medical need. Ultimately, Labor Induction Explained is an incredibly personal Facebook class and everyone has different expectations when it comes to their birthing experience.
